Out to prove versatility
Prakash Raj, who has already earned good recognition
and fame in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films,
entered Telugu filmdom to instantly win viewers
over with his deep voice and emotive modulations as
his key weapons.
Born on March 26, 1965 Prakash Raj, pursued his undergraduate
studies in Commerce in Bangalore. Like most young men
in their early twenties, it was a time when he was restlessly
searching for an identity. An avid fan of Shakespeare
and Kannada literature, he soon found out that he had
a flair for acting and the world of theatre. His career
in theatre exteneded for ten long years with him acting
both in Kannada and English plays. He then introduced
himself to the media of TV in which he was recognised
and soon took to writing scripts for the TV seriels
and act at the same time.
Renowned Tamil film director, K. Balchander recognised
Prakash Raj's handsome looks and talented acting and
offered him the lead role in the successful film Duet..
A couple of more films later he became a popular Tamil
star. He also acted in Malayalam and Kannada films besides
establishing his own production company, Duet Productions
named after his debut film, Duet.
Film producer-director, A.M.Ratnam introduced
Prakash Raj to Telugu movies in his film Sankalpam.
He got the instant appreciation and acceptance of
the Telugu audience.
This followed quite a few Telugu films, which despite
his good performance did not fare well at the box -
office. Disappointed, he took a short break and but
recuperated immediately and returned spirited than ever
to do Suswagatham (1997) and Choodalani Vundi
which ended up being the most successful of his
Telugu films.
Today, Prakash Raj has a good fan following and in
a position to be selective of his roles. To fulfill
his dream of trying out varied roles and being versatile,
he did Antahapuram and he was takedn seriously
by everyone, masses and classes. Samudram saw
him play a cameo role and in Maharani he essayed
the complex role of a eunuch who's runs a brothel.
He is happily married with one daughter, Pooja and
son, Siddharth.
