A graphic artist and a painter
"If Ananthaiah is transformed into a bird, a woman,
a twig or a leaf then his soul is enriched."
D Ananthaiah, a graphic artist and a painter,
explains his awe for nature in the above fashion. Resplendent
with nature's stark beauty, his works always include
in their frames a man who possesses an uncanny understanding
of mother earth's elements and a bird that symbolises
the artist's perceptions. He believes that the beauty
of the natural wo rld
is entirely responsible for his creativity.
Born in 1953 at Ramaiahguda, Vikarabad in Ranga
Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh, Ananthaiah
graduated in Science and a B.Ed. from the Osmania
University. Thereafter, he went on to take a Diploma
in Drawing and Painting from the Ideal Fine Art
Institute of Gulbarga in the Karnataka State. Soon
after returning to Hyderabad, he planned a career in
art and also took to teaching. His keen interest in
graphic arts, led him to hone his skills in the Graphic
School of the Telugu University. Ananthaiah displayed
his works for the first time in 1985 at a group show
held at Kala Bhavan, Hyderabad. The years that
followed brought him fame and recognition as his works
travelled from Hyderabad to Calcutta, Bangalore, Chennai,
Mumbai and Cochin.
His graphics, belonging to the genre of contemporary
art, appear textural to the eye. With subdued use of
colours he manages to recreate the harmony of light
and darkness that is found abundant in nature. His works
have received many awards and critical acclaim, from
Hyderabad Art Society, Lalit Kala Akademi - Chennai,
Potrti Sreeramulu Telugu University, KCP - Bangalore
and Bombay Art School, Mumbai. Presently
the the treasurer of the Hyderabad Art Society,
he is also the headmaster in the Central Upper Primary
School, Puppalguda, Ranga Reddy district. Thus a
career that started with the worship of nature in its
closing stages has been completely devoted to sharpening
the skills nature's offsprings!
