INTERVIEW
WITH PIYUSH K. DAK - CEO, THE ALLEYGATOR
 |
The
Alleygator, the biggest family entertainment center
of the twin cities celebrated its first anniversary on
May 13, 2001.
In this one year, The Alleygator emerged as a favourite
funcentre for the young as well as the elderly. Hyderabad-best
interviewed the young and dynamic entrepreneur from Mumbai,
Piyush K. Dak, on the first anniversary of The Alleygator.
In fact, The Alleygator is Piyush's first venture and
its success gave thrust to Piyush's idea of starting chain
of funcentres all over India.
Can you please tell us about yourself?
I was born and brought up in Mumbai and graduated
from Sydenham College. My family was engaged in
the construction business under the name Navaketan
Group, for the last forty years.
How did you got the idea of starting
a fun centre?
I used to spend my free time going to fun centres in Bombay.
Suddenly one-day, I realised that I am enjoying so much
in these fun centres and questioned myself that why don't
I spread this joy to others. I put forward this idea to
my family members and got their acceptance.
Is there any story behind 'The
Alleygator"?
When I thought of starting a funcentre, the first name
that struck to my mind was 'The Alleygator'. Because the
word 'Alley' is related to bowling, I clubbed the word
with 'gator' to bring the meaning of 'winning spirit'.
Incidentally, when I was browsing the internet for gathering
information on funcentres, I found that there are number
of funcentres with the same name in US and other countries.
So, I stuck to the name 'The Alleygator".
What is the USP of 'The Alleygator"?
We
have four lines of bowling alleys, six pool tables, and
video games. The cafeteria serves tasty food, which makes
the place a perfect entertainment centre. The smoke free
and alcohol free environment of The Alleygator makes it
a perfect place to enjoy the leisure time with the entire
family. A child of one and half years of age can also
enjoy here.
Which is the favourite fun game
at The Alleygator?
Hyderabadis like to enjoy playing bowling here. We have
true cosmic bowling alleys, which gives utmost pleasure
to the players. The lights will change automatically,
with a pleasant sound, and the system also displays the
score. We have ball wall facility for new comers, ladies
and children. This facility helps new comers and ladies
to score better.
Who are your esteemed customers?
Every
person who visits our fun centre is valuable to us. Flim
celebrities like Venkatesh, Ali, Simran, Tarun
spend their leisure time here. Besides several corporate
houses like Global Trust Bank, Satyam Computers, HSBC
celebrate their corporate parties here.
How did the growth of IT and
other sectors helped your business?
The growth of IT and other sectors have a direct impact
on business. Because of spacious dance floor and the reputation
of serving good food, The Alleygator became a banquet
hall for the corporate houses and general public. Everyday
many people are organising birthday parties and get togethers
here.
Do you have fun centres in other
cities?
No. This is my first venture. Now I am planning to start
chain of funcetnres in Chennai, Calcutta, Mumbai etc
soon.
What are your future plans?
I am thinking of setting up a modern platform for a hide
and seek game for children. Laser games and laser shows
are also planned in near future. |
