"We want that education, by which character is
formed, strength of mind is increased, intellect is
expanded, and by which one can stand on one's own feet,"
Swami Vivekananda had declared. He had valid
reasons for identifying and wanting to
fulfill this great need of the nation. The need continues
to exist today. Perhaps the need is also accentuated
as today's education is increasingly becoming information-oriented
rather than inspiration or motivation oriented.
Realising this need, the Ramakrishna Math of Hyderabad
embarked on an ambitious project last August, the project
of starting a Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence.
While laying its foundation on August 15, 1999 a committment
was made that the institute will be inaugurated by September
11, 2000. The commitment was kept up and the institute
was inaugurated by Swami Ranganathanand, President,
Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission on Sunday
September 10th. THE INSTITUTE OF HUMAN EXCELLENCE
The institute, as the name suggests, aims at building
It is an effort to train children, youth and adults
in the basic principles of Indian culture and heritage
and to impart the three essential values of education
viz. vidya, shraddha and efficiency.To
begin with, these will be imparted through:
Training in meditation in order to tap spiritual energy.
Sessions on Indian culture and heritage.
Comparative studies of world's religions with emphasis
on harmony and understanding the spirit of every religion.

fine arts, etc.

Jiva seva - i.e., service to man is service to God.
The Vivekananda Institute will offer three types of
courses. Short term course for fifteen days, another
one for a month and a long term course of three months.
Courses will be organised to cater to sections like
executives, housewives, businessmen and employees. Nominal
fee will be charged for the courses.
For the future, the Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence

of their immense potentialities.
