If your school going kid wants a special dish in lunchbox everyday and if your beauty conscious teenage daughter like to take less calorific food. Then Ladies! Don't worry! Just attend different crash courses at Komal Kala Niketan and keep your family members happy. Serve them what they want. Komal Kala Niketan - the institute of Cookery and Crafts run by Mrs. Kusum Tolwala. "After finishing my B.Sc. from Osmania University in 1973, I started my career as a medical representative. After my marriage I could not continue the job. As I was very much interested in cooking, I started Komal Kala Niketan - to teach preparaing various dishes. This also helped ,me in earning some money by sitting at home," explained Mrs. Kusum.

At Komal Kala Niketan, one can learn variety of cooking courses ranging from Chinese, North Indian, Western snacks to Salads, Fruit juices and Cakes. All the courses offered here are crash courses which can be finished in couple of days time. The fee is also very less, not more than Rs. 500. "Most of the students who attend my classes are married women, normally they don't have much time to spare for these courses. So I design my courses in such a manner that the students can learn in a short period of time," said Mrs. Kusum.

Helping in this endeavour are her notes which she jogs down from various text books. The notes are generallyb related to nutritious and medicinal values of all eatables. She applies these notes wherever possible. In all her classes she explains how a particualr dish or juice or salad is helpful for health. She says, " few years ago I was suffering from piles and doctors advised me to go for an operation. Then I applied my knowledge and prepared a juice with Coriandrum, Pudina, Keera and Buttermilk which I had it periodically. With in three days, I got complete relief from the piles."

She feels that nature has given us so many things like fruits, vegetables. She advises us to eat as many seasonal fruits as possible. She says instead of spending on the soft drinks, we can prepare fresh fruits juices, which are good for our health as they are rich in minerals and vitamins. Believing in the same principle, Komal Kala Niketan teaches you the preparation formulae of 17 types of salads and more than 15 types of juices, 15 Chinese dishes, 10 types of chats, and five types of cakes, etc. Thousands of women are benefitted by attending these classes. Eminent personalities like Dr. Shobha Naidu (Kuchipudi Dancer), Dr. Saida too attended various courses of Komal Kala Niketan.

Mrs. Kusum's dieting formula involves taking less calories of food but not straving ourselves. She has good number of such tips in her kitty bag and they spontaneously come out in the coaching classes.
