Ghagra Cholis, Lachas, etc for formal
occassions such as festivals, marriages and other
functions. But if everybody is dresses alike,
then how do you make yourself special? An exclusive
Zari work or Painting on your dress
will definitely differentiate you from the rest.
But who will create these exclusive designs? Meet
Mr. Mehaboob Basha of Shah Designers
Embroidery Creations, Hyderabad. He has more
than 5,000 exclusive designs in Auri, Zardozi,
Kashmiri, Kunadan and Hand & Machine
Embrodidery for Ghagra Cholis, Lachas,
Shalwar Kameezs, Jodhpuri Suits and Kurta
Pyzamas. A portrait maker-turned-fashion designer,
Basha can give you useful advice on the types
and designs of clothes suitable for individuals.
problems forced me to learn Embroidery, but I decided
to continue in the profession. To improve my skills
I joined Hyderabad Institute of Fashion Technology
(HIFT) and acquired a Diploma in Fashion
Designing. I started my career as an embroidery
designer in 1997 with the help of Radhika, a faculty
of HIFT," said Basha about his professional
struggle. Today Basha caters to the needs of 2,500
potential clients NRIs included.
"Each individual has his/her own body shape
and complexion. Only a designer can tell you best
," said Basha. "About 20 workers
from Lucknow who specialised in Zardozi,
Kashmiri are working with me. I have strong work
force in Machine and Hand Embroidery from Chennai.
And I have a stitching unit as well," said
Basha when asked on how he meets the demand. He
supplies designer sarees to various well-known saree
centres and famous cloth stores in Hyderabad like
Shiva Sarees of Banjara Hills, where
film actresses and other artistes come shopping.
far, 'Shah Creations' has created various designs
and works on 5000 sarees and dresses. The
costiliest design on a saree done by Basha was for
an NRI and it was worth Rs. 20,000. "Zardozi
work is the costliest one because it has to be done
by hand and we use expensive Koras, Crystals
and other frills in it," He fetches his
raw materials like threads and crystals from Lucknow.
"Shortly I am acquiring a computer to start
a digital design studio, where my customers can
see how they look in different dresses and designs
before they decide. This will give them a good opportunity
to select the right choice," revealed Basha
talking about his future plans.
