SRI THYAGARAJA GOVERNMENT COLLEGE
OF MUSIC AND DANCE
Government College of Music and Dance, Ramkote, was
started in the year 1952. For more than three decades,
the college has contributed to the teaching of music and
The college offers a four-year certificate course and
a two-year diploma course in 13 disciplines. These include
Hindustani vocal, Karnatak vocal, dance
forms like Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi.
Classes are also held for learning musical instruments
like the mridangam, tabla, sitar, veena and violin.
There are 16 lecturers, 10 assistant lecturers and two
accompanists to coach the students. The academic year
is from July to April, and admissions take place in July
every year. Nearly 600 students are admitted.
Public examinations are conducted by the Telugu University,
which also awards the certificates and diplomas to successful
candidates. The college holds recitals of eminent musicians
and hosts three programmes a month with student participation.
