When
you think of French, the only name that comes
to mind is Alliance Francaise. As a place
which reflects French culture and teaches French,
Alliance Francaise is the only the international
centre of this kind with a global network. And belonging
to this global family is Alliance Francaise de
Hyderabad, whose Indo-French Cultural Centre
has been blending culture and education.
Founded
in 1980, the Alliance Francaise de Hyderabad is
an institute promoting French and its culture, and
encouraging Indo-French cultural exchanges. "There
are many foreign centres in the world, which are
striving to spread their culture as well as education,
but Alliance Francaise is the only centre to enrich
relations with local societies," said Dr
Jean-Pierre Pagliano, Director of Alliance Francaise
de Hyderabad.
The
French education system at Alliance Francaise includes
levels followed by examinations. "All those,
who pass the examinations will get internationally
recognised certificates and diplomas from French
Embassy in India and the French Ministry
of Education depending upon the levels,"
says Dr. Jean-Pierre Pagliano. The courses are open
to one and all. A prior knowledge of the English
language will be an added advantage. "Though
we offer no magic recipes, Alliance Francaise knows
a great deal about teaching French. After all it
was established in Paris over a hundred years ago
and now has more than 1600 centres all over the
world," Jean-Pierre said. "All
our teachers, French or Indian, are qualified and
trained to help with your specific needs in the
language. Our classes are personalised and based
on a user-friendly communicative approach using
the latest in teaching techniques," he
added.
Apart
from being a French institute, Alliance Francaise
de Hyderabad is also a hangout for artists, critics
and art lovers. It houses a 16 mm Cine Art Club
Theatre, which screens a variety of films and
slide shows on Art and Culture. "We have conducted
many art exhibitions, Film Festivals, Music concerts
and Dance Recitals in Hyderabad since its inception.
Hyderabad centre is trying its best to add to the
reputation of Alliance Francaise by conducting regular
Film Festivals," Jean-Pierre said.
The
centre offers information on various data carriers
- directories, encyclopedias, CD ROMs, Internet
periodicals, newspapers, press reviews. The centre
also houses a video and audio library along with
books for all age groups in English and French.
The books cover various fields like theatre, poetry,
politics, economics, commerce, history, fine arts,
regions, tourism, gastronomy, culture, cinema, philosophy,
literary studies, children's books, comic strips
and a wide array of novels along with easy French
books.
This centre is without a doubt is the soul of France
in the twin cities!
